As everyone should by now be aware, 1 January 2008 is the day when Malta will adopt the Euro as it's national currency. The information below has been issued by NECC and by the Customs Department:
     01a.  Communication to the Public: Issued on 16 November 2007
     01b.  Communication to the Public: Transit Procedures New (Issued 12 Dec 2007)
     02. Changes to Documents in order to reflect dual pricing:
          + Documents in use until the end of 2007 (pre-Euro adoption)
               a. Changes to CASH RECEIPTS
               b. Changes to STATEMENT OF DEFERRED ACCOUNTS
     03. Changes to the IMPORT SYSTEM: Modification to the SAD printout
     04. Tables: Conversion Tables

15-29 Dec. 2007 Remember that ALL modules in the Customs Electronic System (CES) will be offline (from 07.00 am 29th Dec 2007 till 07.00 am on 1 Jan 2008).
 Ensure that you have presented all your declarations early enough, so that they are released before this deadline !

0700 - 2400 Hrs		 Access to ALL modules (manifest, import, export, accounts etc.) in the Customs Electronic System (CES) will be disabled while we prepare for the changeover. (see Communication to Traders (Nov 2007))
30 Dec. 2007

MALTA ADOPTS THE EURO AS ITS OFFICIAL CURRENCY
1 Jan.  2008
 0700 Hrs		 Access to ALL modules in the Customs Electronic System will be re-enabled as from 07.00 am.
31 Jan. 2008 Last day on which Maltese lira banknotes and coins will be legal tender.
